If the Bible were to be compared to a novel, then the seven-day creation would be chapter one. Yet, what event in the Scriptures would be the Prologue – the story before In the Beginning? It occurs between God and Lucifer in heaven. Very few people ever stop to consider what occurred before Lucifer’s heart became prideful. Was Lucifer setup to fall? Were Adam and Eve setup to fall? What can we learn about God if the answers to these questions were Yes and Yes? What is God’s sovereign purpose behind Lucifer as the tempter of mankind? I hope and pray God reveals more of Himself and His ways to help deepen our application of the Love of God through better understanding the Fear of the LORD. God is a God that all will fear and some will love.
Summary of Setup to Fall:
The Sovereign, Triune God designed everything to reveal His holy attributes. Lucifer was created to worship God. During which, God described Lucifer in comparison to all other angels in Ezekiel 28 as the "model of perfection" and gave him the highest authority over all the other angels. Lucifer then thought (paraphrase): "Wait a minute. You (God) created me to praise and honor You, yet you are honoring me.... You know what, I am worthy of honor. I'm worthy of praise!" With that, Lucifer was found to be with pride and thrown out of heaven and onto Earth - along with one third of the angels. If pride precedes the fall, then praise precedes them all. No fall, no tempter (Satan); no tempter, no temptation; no temptation, no sin; no sin, no need for a Savior (Jesus); no need for a Savior, no need for God to reveal His many other attributes. Without the fall, humans would be just like the angels - praising God because He's God - and would have no understanding of God's many other attributes: forgiveness, grace, mercy, and love, as well as wrath, justice, fear, and hate. God cares so much about His holy attributes being revealed as He sees fit to whomever He sees fit that He sovereignly set up Lucifer and mankind to fall so that we may know more of His glorious, holy, and perfect attributes - the same attributes that humans imperfectly apply.
